The Bengaluru Central City Corporation cleared nearly nine tonnes of waste within five hours following New Year celebrations, Additional Development Commissioner Daljit Kumar said on Thursday praising the efforts of sanitation workers and staff.
In a media release, the official said extensive precautionary measures were put in place across the Central limits to ensure public safety during the 2026 New Year celebrations. These included the installation of barricades, deployment of adequate sanitation personnel, medical teams with ambulances, uninterrupted power supply for sufficient lighting, and the appointment of engineers as nodal officers to oversee operations.
The post-celebration cleanup was carried out between 3 am and 8 am across key high-footfall areas such as M G Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, St Mark’s Road, Indiranagar, and Residency Road. Despite the scale of celebrations, the sanitation drive was completed in less than five hours, the official said.
The waste collected included liquor bottles, footwear such as slippers and shoes, discarded clothes, leftover food, plates, plastic waste, cigarette butts, and other refuse, amounting to approximately nine tonnes.
Daljit Kumar commended the dedication of civic workers, sanitation staff, auto-tipper drivers, and officials who worked through the night to restore cleanliness in the city’s core areas.
According to press release, the cleanup operation involved 110 pourakarmikas, three junior health inspectors, 10 auto-tippers, and three pressure jet water-cleaning machines. The operation was supervised by Deputy General Manager Bhimesh Naik and Assistant General Managers Appuraj and Ravikumar.
The release said the swift cleanup ensured that major city roads and public spaces were clean and accessible by early morning on New Year’s Day.
