Amit Shah inaugurates ₹200 crore Adichunchanagiri university campus in Bengaluru
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, inaugurated the Bengaluru campus of Adichunchanagiri University (ACU) today, in a ceremony that highlighted the university’s mission of education and healthcare. The campus, built at a cost of ₹200 crore, spans 20 lakh square feet across 16 acres of land and is set to cater to the educational needs of 4,000 students.
In his address, Amit Shah praised the efforts of Shri Adichunchanagiri Mutt, which runs several initiatives focused on social welfare. He emphasized the core cultural principle of “Sarva Jan Hitaya, Sarva Jan Sukhaya” (the welfare and happiness of all), which guides the Mutt’s activities. Shah noted the Mutt’s role in providing free healthcare through its rural health centers and establishing educational institutions for children.
The newly inaugurated campus features a modern hospital with 1,000 beds, offering both affordable and free treatment, especially for the underprivileged. Shah praised the leadership of Jagadguru Balagangadharanatha Swamiji, who preserved and enriched the spiritual traditions of Adichunchanagiri, and his successor, Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, for continuing these efforts while integrating service, education, and spirituality.
Shah acknowledged that the Mutt’s work has helped connect the poor and middle-class families with spirituality and social service. The Mutt operates based on nine key pillars: food, education, health, spirituality, shelter, environment, disaster relief, compassion, and community ties. This approach, he said, has fostered unity and reinforced cultural and social values within society.
The new campus also offers high-quality healthcare services through its 1,500-bed hospital, which includes specialized centers in cardiology, neurosurgery, oncology, and transplants. Shah recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement about the importance of affordable healthcare, stressing that the central government is providing free treatment for the poor through schemes like Ayushman Bharat, which benefits up to 60 crore people.
