BLR Impact: Bangalore Golf Club issues clarification on construction works

Bengaluru

A day after, BLR.POST broke a story on Public Works Department (PWD) slapping notice to the Bangalore Golf Club (BGC) for allegedly violating lease conditions, the Management Committee has issued clarification on the same to its members. This news website broke the story on June 13 and the BGC gave clarification on June 14.

The BGC  in its clarification admitted that the PWD department has served stop work order. The letter said “We have now received a stop work order from the PWD Department, we are working towards clarifying to the PWD the nature of work that is being carried out and trying to ensure that smooth progress will happen. It may be noted that all these projects were approved by the General Body and whatever changes have been made have been notified to the members from time to time. We will get to the bottom of the matter and ensure that the projects will be completed.”

The letter addressed to the members began saying “It has come to the notice of the Managing Committee that a lot of misinformation about the Club is being spread via WhatsApp etc., the Managing Committee would like to clarify events occurring at our Club, to dispel any fear or apprehensions that members may have felt due to such messages.”

The letter further said During the Special General Body Meeting held on February 3, 2025, certain projects were sanctioned and classified into three categories. The first category included projects that were to be taken up by the current Committee. The second category consisted of projects that were to be undertaken in the near future, for which the current Committee could spend pre-operative expenses. The third category encompassed projects that would be taken up by future Managing Committees.

Additionally, during this meeting, it was recommended that a building committee be formed to oversee all the projects sanctioned by the Special General Body Meeting. As a result, a committee called the “Permanent Project Implementation Committee” (PPIC) was established on February 15, 2025, during the 11th Managing Committee Meeting. This committee has been actively monitoring all projects since its formation.

The projects that were allowed to be undertaken by the current Managing Committee included the renovation of toilets at the New Club House (NCH), the renovation of kitchens at both the Old Club House (OCH) and New Club House (NCH), the renovation of Puddy’s Bar at the Old Club House, and the installation of fencing on Kumarakrupa Road. Among these, the projects for the renovation of toilets at the NCH and the fencing on Kumarakrupa Road have already been completed. Work on the renovation of Puddy’s Bar and the kitchen upgrades at both clubhouses is currently underway, the letter stated.

The designs for the renovations were posted on the notice board for the members’ review. Given that both of these projects were primarily focused on interior design, it was determined that no government sanction was required, as no alterations or additions to the structure were planned, the latter said

However, as a courtesy, an application was submitted to the Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department (PWD) on April 4, 2025, to inform them about the projects sanctioned by the Special General Body Meeting and to seek their approval. Additionally, a letter was sent on June 7, 2025, to the Chief Engineer of the PWD requesting approval for the repairs and renovations to Puddy’s Bar, the letter clarified.
