Bengaluru advocate files complaint with DG&IGP over police inaction in Dharmasthala mass burials case
Bengaluru
Bengaluru-based advocate Manjunath N has filed a formal public interest complaint to the Director General and Inspector General of Police, M A Salim demanding immediate high-level intervention in the ongoing investigation into alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala. The complaint alleges gross negligence and possible tampering by the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Samartha Ganiger of the Dharmasthala Police.
In his letter dated July 9, Manjunath raised the alarm over the lack of visible progress in what he terms “a matter of unprecedented gravity.” The complaint refers to a first information report (FIR) registered on July 3, 2025, following the testimony of a former sanitation worker. According to the complaint, the whistleblower, after nearly two decades of silence, has revealed horrifying details of alleged forced and systematic disposal of human bodies—primarily those of young women, minors, and vulnerable individuals.
The advocate claimed that these bodies, many reportedly showing signs of violence and sexual assault, were clandestinely buried over several years. The sheer scale and brutality of the allegations have shaken public consciousness and raised serious questions about how such acts could go unnoticed or unreported for so long.
What has further intensified public outrage is the reported inaction of the local police. Despite the registration of the FIR and the seriousness of the accusations, the investigating officer has allegedly failed to initiate any visible or meaningful investigation, even six days after the complaint was officially lodged. Advocate Manjunath expresses “profound dismay” and warned that this could be a case of intentional delay, negligence, or even a potential cover-up.
To underscore the seriousness of the issue, copies of the complaint have been sent to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, the Karnataka Lokayukta, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Home Minister G Parameshwar. The advocate has requested urgent and transparent action, a high-level probe, and strict accountability to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied.
“This is not just a legal matter—it’s a humanitarian crisis,” the advocate wrote, urging top authorities to take swift steps to uphold the rule of law and restore public trust in the state’s policing system.
The explosive nature of the allegations and the legal escalation have made the case a matter of statewide concern. With increasing public scrutiny, all eyes are now on how the Karnataka government and police establishment respond to this serious plea for justice.
