Bengaluru East City Corporation shuts 14 illegal PGs as crackdown begins

In a major crackdown illegal Paying Guest (PG) accomodations, the Bengaluru East City Corporation has sealed 14 PG establishments operating illegally without trade licenses and violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The action aims to safeguard public health and safety, with municipal health authorities directed to conduct inspections and implement corrective measures.

14 PGs sealed

Under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar and led by Health Officer Dr. Savita, a team of health inspectors inspected PG establishments operating unlawfully in residential areas, in violation of the GBA Act, 2024. Following the inspections, strict action has been initiated against the following establishments

Special trade license campaign

A special trade license drive was conducted from 10 to 15 November 2025 across 17 ward offices in the municipal area. During this period, 466 entrepreneurs applied for licenses under the ‘Single Window’ system, paying a total fee of ₹25,52,800. The municipality ensured that licenses were issued on the same day of submission, without any intermediary intervention.

Commissioner D.S. Ramesh emphasised that this initiative will streamline license issuance, making the process fast, transparent, and citizen-friendly. Special camps were organized in commercial areas across the 17 wards to further enhance accessibility.
