In a major push for smart, sustainable, and seamless urban mobility, Bengaluru today witnessed the launch of open-data-powered multimodal transport solutions by app developers Tummoc and Namma Yatri, winners of the Enroute Challenge. The initiative, jointly led by Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI), WRI India, and Villgro, enables commuters to plan and complete end-to-end journeys—combining metro, bus, and autos—on a single digital platform.

The breakthrough was made possible by the release of General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data from BMTC and BMRCL, marking a new era of innovation through open data. The new features allow users to view live schedules, calculate trip durations, identify nearby stops, and book last-mile rides—all within one interface. Carbon savings tracking has also been integrated to promote climate-conscious commuting.

Unveiling the features, Karnataka IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge hailed open data as the key to achieving the city’s goal of 70% public transport share by 2030. “This is Bengaluru’s ingenuity at work—where government, industry and startups come together to deliver people-centric mobility solutions,” he said.

The event also featured remarks from top city mobility officials. BMRCL Managing Director M. Maheshwar Rao emphasised the value of open metro data in bridging last-mile connectivity gaps. BMTC MD Ramachandran R highlighted that the bus service had clocked a record 46 lakh daily passengers last month, underscoring the need for integration and innovation.

Dr. Ekroop Caur, Principal Secretary, IT/BT, said open data unlocks the full potential of public transport, while Prof. Rajeev Gowda of the Brand Bengaluru Committee called the Enroute Challenge a catalyst for commuter-first innovation.

Corporate and startup leaders echoed the sentiment. Manu Saale (MBRDI), Pawan Mulukutla (WRI India), and Ananth Aravamudan (Villgro) stressed the transformative power of data collaboration. Tummoc CEO Hiranmay Mallick and Namma Yatri COO Shan MS said their new features aim to make commuting not just smarter, but more accessible and inclusive.

The Enroute Challenge demonstrates how government, startups, and industry can co-create mobility solutions for the future of urban India.
