Bengaluru Traffic Police Book 747 for Drunk Driving in Weekend Crackdown
Bengaluru:
Bengaluru Traffic Police wrapped up a week-long special enforcement drive on Sunday, registering 747 cases of drunk driving and 232 cases of over speeding across the city between April 6 and 12.
The operation, carried out simultaneously across all 53 traffic police stations, saw officers check nearly 51,000 vehicles over the seven-day period. Of those, 747 drivers and riders were found to be under the influence of alcohol — roughly 1 in every 68 vehicles stopped.
The over-speeding crackdown ran in parallel, with 232 cases registered and fines totalling ₹2,33,000 collected.
The drive targeted peak weekend hours when drunk driving incidents typically spike, covering major arterial roads and key nightlife corridors across the city.
Traffic police said the operation would not be a one-time effort. “This drive will continue further,” the department stated in its official press note, signalling that residents should expect sustained enforcement in the weeks ahead.
