BJP High Command has not shown any interest in Ujwal for Puttur assembly seat

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) High Command (HC) has neither shown any interest nor held any discussion on making businessman Ujwal Prabhu the party’s candidate for the Puttur Assembly constituency, a highly placed party source informed blrpost.com.

Recently, while speaking to a local news website, Prabhu made tall claims that the High Command had shown interest in him as a candidate for Puttur. However, he also said he would work for the party during the 2028 elections if the HC were to give the ticket to any other individual.

Prabhu is a real estate developer and the founder of UR Properties. He has developed several layout projects. He is also the son-in-law of S. R. Rangamurthy, an RSS leader and former president of the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative (CAMCO).

Party sources and Dakshina Kannada (DK) RSS think tank responding to his statement said it was “false and baseless.” The sources stated that the party High Command has not instructed Ujwal Prabhu to prepare himself as a candidate. The sources added the party is aware that he does not enjoy a good name in Puttur, let alone strong public support. Party will not jeopardise its prospects by giving tickets to people who are not considered worthy.

The sources said several RSS leaders in DK are upset over the statement. The sources maintained that it was Prabhu’s personal claim and not the party’s stand. While some RSS leaders are laughing at what they termed his immaturity, a few others are angry over the development.

With Karnataka Assembly elections still two years away, no decision would be taken at this stage, a senior RSS leader said, adding that by making such a statement, Prabhu has damaged his own political prospects.

Local BJP leaders in Puttur said giving a ticket to Prabhu would go against the RSS policy on dynasty politics. They pointed out that his father-in-law has held several positions and said it would be unbecoming of the RSS to support Prabhu if he were to be backed. Before demanding a ticket, they said, he must work hard for the party at the grassroots level, which he has not done so far.
