BMTC Conductor Slaps Passenger Amid Ticketing Dispute

Bengaluru:

A Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus conductor allegedly slapped a passenger following a dispute over ticket issuance, sparking a wave of outrage across social media and public forums.

The incident occurred on August 29 after a line-checking inspector found that the conductor had not issued a ticket to the passenger, identified as Hriday Raj, a musician by profession. The passenger was fined ₹500 for travelling without a valid ticket.

Despite this, the conductor grew furious, as failing to issue a ticket could result in internal punishment.

Once the inspector left, the conductor confronted the passenger, accusing him of not paying for the ticket.

During the altercation, the conductor allegedly slapped the passenger. At this point, fellow passengers intervened, questioning the conductor’s behaviour and defending Hriday Raj. Locals reportedly rallied behind the victim, condemning the unjust treatment.

Sharing his ordeal on X, Hriday Raj wrote: “Horrific Experience on BMTC Bus – Please Help Me Get Justice. Today on BMTC bus KA 57 F-4029, I paid a ₹420 penalty, yet the conductor slapped me hard across the face and abused me. I have video proof. No passenger deserves this. Please help me get justice.”
He also posted videos of the incident, which quickly went viral.
