BWSSB Announces OTS Scheme with Full Interest Waiver on Water Bill Arrears

In a major relief to Bengaluru residents, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme offering a 100% waiver on interest for pending water bills.

The scheme, introduced as a Ugadi initiative by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), will be implemented for a three-month period from April to June 2026.

According to an official statement, consumers who clear the entire principal amount of their outstanding water bills during this period will be eligible for a complete waiver of accumulated interest up to April 2026.

Over ₹851 crore in pending dues

The move comes in the backdrop of mounting arrears. Of the nearly 11 lakh water connections under BWSSB, around 5.11 lakh consumers have pending bills.

As of the end of February 2026, total dues stand at ₹851.33 crore, including: Rs 539.43 crore (principal amount) ₹311.90 crore (interest)

Who can benefit

The OTS scheme will apply to all categories of consumers, including: Domestic, Commercial and Industrial. It will also cover dues from government departments and institutions, which will be settled through account reconciliation.

To facilitate easy payments, BWSSB will provide each defaulter with detailed information, including: RR number, Principal amount ,Interest eligible for waiver Final payable amount

Payments can be made through: BWSSB kiosks Online portal Digital payment platforms

Shivakumar said the scheme aims to both ease the financial burden on citizens and strengthen BWSSB’s financial position.

“By waiving nearly ₹311 crore in interest, we are significantly reducing the burden on over 5.11 lakh consumers. Citizens should make the most of this three-month opportunity,” he said.
