Call 1926 to report wild animals entering villages
Bengaluru
Residents of Karnataka can now make a free call to 1926 if wild animals stray into villages. The move, announced by Eshwar B Khandre, Minister for Forest, Zoology and Environment, ensures that as soon as a complaint is registered, the information is relayed to the concerned forest division for immediate action.
Whether it is an elephant, tiger, bear, leopard, or any other wild animal, sightings in gardens, fields, or agricultural lands can be reported through this dedicated helpline. Complaints lodged at the central office are monitored and verified by PCCF (Principal Chief Conservator of Forests) and EPCCF (Environment and Project Chief Conservator of Forests) to ensure timely response.
Minister Khandre emphasised that senior officials are keeping a close watch on the system, and division-level officers are required to respond promptly. He added that this step strengthens the current mechanism for managing human-wildlife encounters effectively.
