City corporations to identify new parking spaces in Bengaluru
Bengaluru
Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials from all five city corporations under the GBA to identify and compile a comprehensive list of parking spaces within their respective jurisdictions.
During a virtual review meeting held on Tuesday, the Chief Commissioner said that earmarking and utilizing parking spaces would help generate additional revenue for the corporations. He instructed that detailed reports on available parking sites be submitted immediately for implementation.
Highlighting the importance of urban infrastructure upkeep, Rao issued a series of directives across key civic areas
Streetlights and energy efficiency
All non-functional streetlights must be replaced promptly, and LED streetlights installed wherever necessary to improve illumination and save energy.
Road maintenance and pothole repairs
Corporation engineers were ordered to complete pending pothole repairs on arterial, sub-arterial, and ward-level roads without delay. Roads dug up for utility works should be restored immediately after completion, Rao said.
Footpath cleanliness
Officials were instructed to clear encroachments, remove debris, and clean footpaths using jet-spray machines to ensure safe pedestrian movement.
Expedited road development works
With state government funds already sanctioned, the Chief Commissioner asked corporations to call tenders and begin development works on roads immediately, ensuring timely completion.
Implementation of Welfare Schemes:
Rao directed that information on all welfare programmes be updated and that eligible beneficiaries receive benefits efficiently.
Pedestrian foot overbridges
City corporations were asked to inspect locations proposed by the Traffic Police Department and construct new foot overbridges where required, while ensuring maintenance of existing ones.
Monitoring of B-SMILE project
Officials were told to closely monitor ongoing B-SMILE (Sancharayukta Scheme) works—especially link road and stormwater drain corridor development—to enhance connectivity and ease congestion.
