Congress driving Bengaluru’s growth: DK Shivakumar

Deputy Chief Minister (Dy.CM) and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar asserted today that the Congress party has played a leading role in shaping Bengaluru’s development, far outpacing the contributions of rival parties. He highlighted that the government has outlined projects totaling ₹1 lakh crore to meet the city’s growing needs.

Speaking at a gathering of Dasarahalli Assembly constituency leaders and party workers, Shivakumar highlighted the rapid population growth of the city—from 70 lakh to 1.5 crore over the past two decades—as a key reason behind the ambitious investment.

“Let’s not forget—it wasn’t the BJP that built the flyovers on Tumkur Road, Airport Road, Hosur Road, or Kolar Road. These were sanctioned under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,” he said.

He said the formation of the Greater Bengaluru Authority, created to better manage the expanding city’s infrastructure and administrative needs. “We’ll consult with MLAs and ministers to finalize the number of new corporations. Elections will be held once these corporations are officially established,” he stated.

Reflecting on his tenure as KPCC President, Shivakumar recalled his earlier prediction: “I said Congress would win if the youth and women stood with us—and they did. Now, we’re honoring their trust with our five guarantee schemes, which we’ve implemented as promised.”

Taking aim at the BJP, he noted, “Despite being in power for four years, they never introduced initiatives like our guarantee schemes. They focus on making noise, not delivering results. Even in Dasarahalli, where our candidate Manjanna didn’t win, he still ensured that 8,000 families received their e-khata documents.”
