Dy.CM D K Shivakumar on Wednesday held a meeting with ministers and MLAs from Congress region

D K Shivakumar directs KMF to open 8 Nandini outlets in Metro Stations, Amul to open 2

Bengaluru

Deputy Chief Minister (Dy.CM) and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar has announced that eight out of ten designated spots in Bengaluru Metro Stations will soon house Nandini retail outlets, operated by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF).

This directive comes after the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) floated a tender to open stalls in metro premises — for which only Amul had applied and secured two locations.

Speaking to the media near his official residence in Kumarapark, Shivakumar clarified that KMF had not participated in the initial tender process. “We have now instructed KMF to apply. Amul was the only bidder and has already opened two stalls. We will not revoke their permissions. But I’ve directed that Nandini outlets be set up in the remaining eight metro station locations,” he stated.

Focus on governance, garbage management, and urban projects

The Dy.CM talking about the meeting with Congress MLAs said discussions were held regarding party organisation and upcoming municipal elections. A consensus is being sought with opposition leaders on restructuring Bengaluru’s civic bodies under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

In a bid to enhance garbage management in the city, Shivakumar announced the launch of a dedicated helpline. “Citizens can now click pictures of garbage piles and send them to the helpline. Within a week, the BBMP will ensure the waste is cleared from the location,” he said.

He also mentioned that road repair works are underway across wards, with MLAs instructed to monitor progress. White-topping of major roads is being implemented, and Shivakumar personally reviewed the quality of ongoing work in several areas.

Shivakumar revealed plans for a city-wide “E-Khata Campaign” starting July 1. “A pilot project will begin in Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda’s constituency. We’ve readied documents for 25,000 properties. These will be delivered directly to citizens’ doorsteps throughout July,” he said.

The city has roughly 25 lakh properties, of which only 5 lakh have uploaded ownership documents to the system. Shivakumar urged remaining property owners to use the month-long campaign to regularise their records. “This will be a movement. We will run advertisements and conduct door-to-door awareness drives to make people submit documents and obtain their e-khatas,” he explained.
