Designated feeding spots set up for stray dogs in Bengaluru North

Bengaluru

The Bengaluru North City Corporation has identified 70 designated locations across its jurisdiction for feeding stray dogs, aiming to balance humane animal care with public health and environmental hygiene.

Announcing the initiative, Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar said signboards have been installed at all identified spots to regulate and streamline feeding activities. The move is intended to ensure the humane management of street dogs while safeguarding public safety and cleanliness.

The decision has been taken in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court of India, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules. Officials said the objective is to facilitate systematic and controlled feeding practices without causing inconvenience to the public.

According to the corporation, clear instructions have been displayed at each designated feeding point. Citizens have been directed to feed stray dogs only at the identified locations. Feeding is strictly prohibited on main roads, near hospitals, schools, and other crowded public areas. Those who feed the dogs must ensure the area is cleaned after the activity. Harassment or harm to stray dogs is punishable under law, authorities warned, adding that feeding must be carried out in a disciplined manner to maintain public safety.

The feeding spots were identified in coordination with ward-level officials, local feeders, veterinary officers, and animal husbandry department staff.

For further information, citizens may contact the Chief Veterinary Officer’s office at the Animal Husbandry Department in Byatarayanapura or call the corporation helpline at 1533.
