Dharmasthala Crimes: SIT probing mass burial case now given status of ‘police station’
Bengaluru
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Dharmasthala mass burial case has now been given the status of police station. This is crucial because during the trial SIT will not face any legal hurdles.
The sources in the Home Ministry said “the SIT received the order on Thursday night, and effectively this has been decorated as a police station. However, SIT will first redirect the complaints it received to local police stations and only Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) M A Saleem directs the SIT to register the case, the same will be done.”
The sources further said this empowered the SIT which is currently busy in carrying out documentation work after seven days of digging operation. The SIT may not be carrying out any digging process on Friday. Once some portion of the documentation is complete the operation will be resumed.
The SIT on the other hand has packed the skeletal remains and it is being sent to forensic analysis in Bengaluru. The sources said so far no one has determined the sex of the human beings whose skeletal remains were found.
It may be recalled that the State government constituted the SIT on July 19 after a former sanitation worker of Dharmasthala Temple Administration filed a complaint alleging he was forced to bury several bodies. In the complaint he alleged that many bodies were subjected to violence.
