Dharmasthala panchayat buried body after 41 days it was found, kept at K S Hegde mortuary

Multiple documents procured through the Right to Information Act (RTI) show that the Dharmasthala Panchayat buried the unclaimed body of a 65-year-old man 41 days after it was found near the Netravati–Shantivana bus shelter in Dharmasthala village.

According to the Unnatural Death Report (UDR) list and Dharmasthala Police Station’s communication to the Panchayat, the body of the 65-year-old man was found on April 1, 2016 (UDR No: 05/2016). His body was kept in the cold storage unit of K S Hegde Hospital mortuary in Deralakatte until May 10, 2016. The body was taken out from cold storage on May 11, 2016, and buried at the Dharmasthala cemetery. This means his body was buried 41 days after it was found. The communication does not mention as to why the body was kept for so many days in the mortuary.

Dharmasthala police wrote letter on May 11 to bury the body that was found on April 1, 2016
UDR 05/2016 also say the body was found on April 1, 2016

On the day of burial, the Panchayat also dug three additional graves to bury other bodies. The three other bodies that were buried were found on May 9, 2016 (UDR No: 18/2016)May 9, 2016 (UDR No: 19/2016), and May 10, 2016 (UDR No: 20/2016).

The police communication show the body of woman (UDR 20/2016) was found on May 10, 2016 and requested to bury on May 11,2016
UDR 18/2016 -The body was found on May 9, asked to bury on May 11
This communication between police and panchayat shows panchayat buried UDR 19/2016 on May 11

While the body of the 65-year-old man was buried after 41 days, the woman’s body found on May 10, 2016, was buried the very next day. The bodies of the two men found on May 9 were buried within two days. On the other hand. it should be noted that on May 9 (18/2016) and May 10 (20/2016), bodies of male and female – both – were found near Sthana Ghatta.

The bills generated by the panchayat show that all the bodies were buried on May 11 as the date of burial is mentioned as May 11. ₹ 2,000 each was paid for four persons for buying 4 bodies.

Bill also show that on May 11 four bodies were buried
Another set of bills.

Now, the question arises: why did the Dharmasthala police, with lightning speed, declare the woman’s body unclaimed in just one day, while keeping the 65-year-old man’s body for 41 days at K. S. Hegde Hospital? Has K. S. Hegde Hospital handed over the post-mortem reports of these unclaimed bodies to the police? This pattern of procedural lapses warrants a thorough probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

  1. in UDR NO: 20/2016, in the last paragraph they had mentioned men’s body instead of women’s body. Its shows that the seriousness of the Dharamstala Police towards the cases.

  2. It’s obvious that the places mentioned where the bodies were seen to be found are also scam.Especially bodies of women.Because here it says body of women was found hanging in public toilet of Nethravathi snanghatta.Who have been to that snanghatta and public toilet know that people kept coming all day to these places since the the temple remained overcrowded almost all of the time and the toilets are designed there in a way that there is no provision there to hang something. There is high chance that the
body was found to be somewhere else and not inside public toilet. Also regarding that Andhra women, who was found in inventory room. That also seems to be suspicious.A proper enquiry is a must!

  3. Information have to be get(Through RTI) from Wenlock hospital regarding usage of cold storage(mortuary) which has 20 bodies capacity,Upto Now ; to authenticate claims which were made as “shifted to KS hospital ; due to there is no palce at Wenlock hospital to keep bodies “

  4. Looks like the temple town has turned out to be a slaughter house. Over a 1000 UDR’s registered in the last 20+ years is no joke in such a small temple town. Everyone in this matter should be thoroughly investigated and punished for this heinous act. Justice must win

  6. The question still remains, where are these bodies buried? While digging police could not find any bodies whereas the panchayat member himself claimed the site shown by mask man, they had buried unclaimed bodies in the same site.

Dharmasthala has some deeper secrets than anyone knows. Hope to get justice to everyone who died there.
