Dharmasthala SIT gifts brand new mobile phone, claims Sujatha Bhat

Sujatha Bhat, one of the complainants in the ongoing Dharmasthala mass burial probe, has claimed in an interview that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) gifted her a mobile phone. Bhat made this claim in an interview with New Hunt, a news channel (Youtube).
It should be noted that Bhat has made several claims earlier. In one such instance, she alleged that her daughter was killed at Dharmasthala. However, she later retracted the statement, admitting that she had lied. The mobile phone claim is the latest addition to her series of allegations.
In the interview, Bhat said that the SIT sleuths treated her with great hospitality during the interrogation, providing her with good food and chocolates. “They treated me with hospitality. They provided timely food and even gave me a mobile phone while I was leaving,” she said.
Bhat further stated that SIT officials Manjunath Gowda and Gunapal are good people, and that baseless allegations had been made against Gowda for no reason. If her claims are true, it raises serious doubts about the credibility of the SIT, as it has no authority to give such gifts. The SIT is a probing agency, not a gifting agency.
A senior IPS officer from the SIT told blrpost.com that Bhat should surrender the phone if her claims are true. The SIT is likely to summon her again to verify the veracity of her statements.
The video focuses on how some of the accused SIT officers supposedly treated Sujatha Bhat kindly — giving her food on time, speaking politely, offering chocolates, even gifting her a mobile phone. This creates an image of them as “good people” and distracts from the serious complaints of abuse and mistreatment made earlier by Kempamma against these same officers.
By highlighting Sujatha Bhat’s new statements about their kindness, the video uses her to question Kempamma’s story and weaken her allegations. It feels like a planned effort to soften the charges against the officers and make the public doubt Kempamma’s claims.
