Elderly man dies of suspected stray dog attack in Bengaluru
Bengaluru
In a tragic and alarming incident, a 68-year-old man, Seethappa, is suspected to have died following an attack by street dogs in Kempegowda Nagar, located in the Yelahanka Zone of Bengaluru’s Byatarayanapura constituency.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of July 28 at around 3:00 am. Local sources indicate that Mr. Seethappa had stepped out to visit a nearby tea shop when the suspected attack took place. Family members revealed that he had been dealing with mental health challenges.
Due to the timing of the incident and limited public presence, there were no immediate eyewitnesses or CCTV footage to verify the circumstances. A distress call was reportedly made to the emergency helpline 112, after which local police responded quickly, transporting the injured Seethappa to the Yelahanka Government Health Center. However, he was declared dead upon arrival by doctors. The body has been sent to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
In response, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Animal Husbandry Division has captured 16 street dogs from the vicinity and placed them under observation at the Yelahanka Division’s Animal Birth Control and Anti-Rabies Center. Efforts are ongoing to locate and capture any remaining strays in the area.
BBMP officials stated that compensation will be provided to the deceased’s family if the post-mortem report confirms that the cause of death was due to injuries from a street dog attack, in accordance with existing municipal regulations. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and await the results of the medical examination before making further determinations.
