Elections for the five newly carved corporations in Bengaluru are likely to be held in June 2026, a senior IAS official in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) informed blrpost.com.
The five corporations were officially formed on September 2, 2025, and fall under the ambit of the GBA as per the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, which came into effect on May 15, 2024. These corporations are autonomous bodies under the Act. The five corporations are Bengaluru Central, East, West, North, and South.
It may be recalled that the last election for the erstwhile Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was held in August 2015, and the council’s term ended in September 2020. BBMP did not witness any polls until 2025, during which the city was governed by administrative officials rather than elected representatives.
A senior IAS official said “ward delimitation for the new corporations would be completed within a week, and the reservation process would conclude by November. The Election Commission would then require some time to finalise the electoral rolls.”
The official further stated that “the work related to electoral rolls is expected to be completed by April, following which the elections will likely be conducted in June.” The official added that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar are keen on holding the elections at the earliest.
Abdul Wajid, former Congress corporator, said the party leadership has instructed cadres and former corporators to begin preparations for the elections. In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the State has informed that the elections would be held in February 2026. Ward boundaries will be finalised soon after the Deepavali festival, and the reservation process will be completed in November.
Wajid said both Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister Shivakumar, as well as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, are eager to hold the elections, and the party is working in full swing toward that goal.
