Final voters’ list for five corporations on April 6 after extension; SEC issues revised schedule

Bengaluru

The State Election Commission (SEC) has extended the timeline for preparing ward-wise electoral rolls for the five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), announcing that the final voters’ list will now be published on April 6, 2026. The revised schedule follows multiple complaints from political parties and members of the public regarding discrepancies in the draft rolls released earlier.

Exercising powers under Article 243-ZA of the Constitution of India, Section 35 of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, and Rules 03 and 04 of the Greater Bengaluru Governance (Election) Rules, 2025, the SEC had initially directed the preparation of ward-wise electoral rolls by adopting the existing Assembly electoral rolls. Accordingly, voter registration officers published the draft voters’ list on January 19, 2026, based on the Assembly rolls in force with October 1, 2025, as the qualifying date.

However, following widespread objections, the Commission invoked Rule 30 of the Greater Bengaluru Governance (Registration of Electors) Rules, 2025, and issued a revised circular. Physical verification of polling station jurisdictions and voter distribution revealed significant anomalies. In several instances, voters residing geographically within one ward were included in another ward’s list. Errors were also found in the recording of polling station room numbers. Authorities sought permission to rectify these discrepancies through the “From-To Matrix” process.

Under Rules 19 and 20, corrections are permitted before final publication. The SEC allowed the From-To Matrix rectification process from February 16 to February 20, 2026.

A revised schedule has now been notified
