Greater Bengaluru Authority report to be placed in Cabinet after consulting opposition leaders: Dy.CM

Bengaluru

Deputy Chief Minister (Dy.CM) and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar announced on Monday that the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) report will be presented in the Cabinet meeting only after consulting and gaining the confidence of opposition leaders.

Speaking to the media after a high-level meeting with officials at Vidhana Soudha regarding the GBA, Shivakumar stated, “the committee has submitted its final report on how the BBMP areas should be reorganised under the Authority. I have instructed the committee chairperson to hold discussions with opposition leaders and ensure their support. Once this is done, I will bring the report before the Cabinet.”

He added that the plan will first be implemented within the existing BBMP limits, with scope for expansion in the future. “We aim to bring this proposal before the Cabinet at the earliest and initiate elections soon after,” he said.

On the Yettinahole project

Responding to questions about Minister G. Parameshwara’s involvement in discussions on the Yettinahole drinking water project, Shivakumar clarified that certain challenges were raised, particularly concerning the exclusion of some taluks.

“We are taking care to ensure no village is submerged as part of the Yettinahole implementation. Local residents have also given suggestions regarding a few lakes. We will move forward with the plan after building consensus and will present the matter before the Cabinet,” he noted.

Upcoming Delhi visit

When asked about his scheduled visit to Delhi, the DCM explained that he would be discussing forest land clearance issues related to the Yettinahole project in Tumakuru and Hassan with Union ministers. “We have appointments with key officials including the Union Jal Shakti Minister,” he said.

On meeting party high command

Asked if he plans to meet Congress high command leaders during the trip, Shivakumar responded with a symbolic gesture: “the party office in Delhi is like a temple to us. Whenever we visit Delhi, we go there, bow in respect, and return,” he remarked.
