Bengaluru

Wilson Garden police have arrested a 62-year-old man, identified as Rajiv, on Tuesday for issuing a hoax bomb threat to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Police said Rajiv had emailed BMRCL with a message containing the fake bomb threat. After receiving the mail, BMRCL filed a complaint at the Wilson Garden police station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Hakay Akshay Machhindra, said the police began an investigation after registering a First Information Report (FIR) and subsequently arrested Rajiv. During the investigation, it was confirmed that the email was sent by him.

Machhindra further said the accused has been a patient at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) for the past five years and is mentally unstable. About 15 years ago, he divorced his wife and has since been residing in a rented house in Belthur.

The DCP added that since Rajiv is unemployed, his friends and family members have been helping him with daily essentials and financial support to pay rent.
