R L Parameshwaraiah, former Joint General Manager (Projects) of Housing & Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO), allegedly died by suicide in Bengaluru on Tuesday, even as a corruption case accusing him of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income was under investigation.

An FIR (RC0372026A0002) was registered on January 30, 2026, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Branch, Bengaluru, under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and corresponding amended provisions.

The case stemmed from a written complaint dated May 18, 2023, by HUDCO’s Chief Vigilance Officer Arun Kumar Chaturvedi. The complaint cited Income Tax searches in December 2021, during which a suitcase allegedly belonging to Parameshwaraiah was recovered from a civil contractor’s residence. The suitcase reportedly contained three bank locker keys, ₹1.35 lakh in cash, gold jewellery, and property documents.

Subsequent searches of lockers in Yelahanka and Attur allegedly led to the seizure of ₹86.35 lakh in cash. Investigators claimed Parameshwaraiah failed to satisfactorily explain the source of the funds.

According to the FIR, assets held by him and his family rose from ₹29.64 lakh in January 2012 to ₹5.85 crore by December 2021. After accounting for income of ₹3.40 crore and expenditure of ₹94.32 lakh during the check period, the agency alleged disproportionate assets of ₹3.09 crore — a 90.92% excess over known income.
The investigation was ongoing at the time of his death.
