Zonal Commissioner, Suralkar Vikas Kishor on Saturday conducted a surprise inspection at K R Market in Bengaluru
K R Market to be equipped with CCTV to check garbage dumping
In a bid to enhance cleanliness and curb illegal waste dumping, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) West Zone Commissioner, Vikas Kishore Suralkar has instructed officials to install CCTV cameras in key locations across K R Market. During a surprise inspection of the market today, he expressed serious concern over the unhygienic conditions caused by indiscriminate waste disposal by traders.
Suralkar emphasised that maintaining cleanliness in such a high-footfall area is essential, but current practices make it nearly impossible. He directed the civic staff to identify garbage-prone zones and install CCTV cameras to monitor and penalise violators. Currently, the market generates approximately 70 tonnes of waste daily, which is cleared in three shifts.
He further ordered continuous surveillance post-CCTV installation and stringent fines for rule-breakers.
Key instructions:
- Designated vendor spaces: Strict marking of vendor areas will be enforced to avoid encroachment and unauthorised trading. Vendors must restrict their operations to allotted spaces.
- Tight control on unauthorised trading: Suralkar instructed the officials to curb illegal vending around the periphery of the market.
- Additional marshals: While one marshal supervisor and seven marshals are already deployed, he called for the appointment of more personnel if necessary to maintain cleanliness.
- Waste bin infrastructure: The Commissioner has ordered the installation of large waste bins at four major locations and directed that each vendor be provided with individual bins to ensure proper garbage disposal.
- Push carts for workers: Pourakarmikas (civic workers) should be equipped with push carts to aid in efficient cleaning, he said.
- Use of pressure washers: Five high-power (5 HP) pressure washers have been procured. These will be used daily to clean areas with heavy grime and dirt.
- Parking tender and regulation: Suralkar also instructed the immediate rollout of a new tender for managing parking at the ground floor and other areas of the market. Entry and exit routes must be clearly defined, and new parking charges will be fixed post-tender.
