Lokayukta raids uncover ₹37.41 crore in assets across 41 locations in Karnataka

In a sweeping anti-corruption operation, the Karnataka Lokayukta Police uncovered disproportionate assets worth ₹37.41 crore during coordinated raids conducted across 41 locations in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kalaburagi, Koppal, and Kodagu districts. The raids targeted eight government officials accused of accumulating wealth far beyond their known sources of income.

Among those under the Lokayukta’s radar, Dr. Vasanti Amar, IAS officer and Special Deputy Commissioner with Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd, topped the list with undisclosed assets worth ₹9.02 crore. Her holdings include three sites, four houses, three acres of agricultural land, luxury vehicles, gold, and other valuables.

She was followed by Bagli Maruti, Assistant Director, Department of Urban and Rural Planning, Bengaluru, with assets worth ₹6.34 crore, and Manjunathaswamy M, Joint Director (In-charge), Skill Development Department, Kodagu, with ₹5.20 crore in unaccounted wealth.

Officials were found in possession of luxury cars, gold ornaments, multiple properties (urban and agricultural), large amounts of cash, and investments in financial instrumen

Other officials raided include

• H.V. Yarappa Reddy, EE, BBMP, Bengaluru – ₹2.62 crore
• Venkatarama B, Office Assistant, MCC Mysuru – ₹3.71 crore
• Rajesh M, AEE, KIADB Tumakuru – ₹3.67 crore
• Sunil Kumar, EE, Health & Family Welfare, Kalaburagi – ₹4.34 crore
• Shekhu Chavhan, Deputy Director, DIC, Koppal – ₹3.11 crore

Massive scale of investigation

According to the Lokayukta’s press release, each officer’s properties were searched at multiple locations—ranging from three to ten places—signifying the scale and planning involved. The crackdown is part of the Lokayukta’s intensified efforts to root out corruption in government departments.

Searches were carried out under the jurisdiction of respective Lokayukta Police Stations, and cases have been officially registered under the Disproportionate Assets (DA) provisions.

Legal proceedings ahead

All eight officers are now under investigation, and the Karnataka Lokayukta has confirmed that the evidence collected during the searches will form the basis for further legal proceedings.

This large-scale crackdown reinforces the Lokayukta’s renewed resolve to tackle corruption in public service and send a stern message to officials misusing their positions for personal enrichment.
