Bengaluru
After coming under pressure from the cab drivers, Chikkajala police have arrested the prime accused in connection with an assault on two cab drivers near Shettigere, close to Kempegowda International Airport, on Monday. The incident occurred on Sunday night.
According to police, the main accused, identified as Devegowda, son of Krishnagowda, was taken into custody after the injured drivers identified him as the person who led the attack. An i20 car used in the assault has also been seized. Chikkajala Police Circle Inspector Anand confirmed the arrest and said efforts are underway to nab two other suspects involved in the case.
Both cab drivers, who sustained injuries in the attack, are said to be recovering. It may be recalled that two taxi drivers were allegedly assaulted by three local men allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Despite police presence at the scene shortly after the attack, no action was taken against the perpetrators, raising serious concerns about police inaction and local influence. The drivers are identified as Janardhan and Basavaraju.
After learning about the incident Ola and Uber Cab Owners’ Association Tanveer Pasha rushed to the hospital and then put pressure on the police to register the First Information Report (FIR). The police after registering the FIR arrested the prime suspect.
