Married couple dies in Dharmasthala lodge, police deliberately keep wife out of UDR

Bengaluru

In a highly suspicious move, Dharmasthala police have excluded the wife of a man from the Unnatural Death Record (UDR) despite the fact that both died in a lodge run by the Dharmasthala temple administration. The UDR has been registered only in the husband’s name.

In 2018, the couple — identified as Mrityujaya Patil (60) and Netravati M (55) — ended their lives. They had rented a room at Vaishali Guest House on May 7 and were found dead the next day. The lodge in-charge broke open the door after they failed to respond. The couple hailed from Byadagi in Haveri district and were relatives of a senior Congress leader.

A death note allegedly recovered by the police stated, “due to the free flow of money and liquor, politicians and politics have stooped so low. It has marred democracy. We are unhappy with the development and it can only be cleansed by D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala.”

The bodies of the couple were later handed over to their family. This incident was widely reported in the media, including India’s largest circulated newspaper, the Times of India (Read here: Couple end life citing degeneration of Indian democratic system). The family members of the couple also confirmed that the deaths occurred at this lodge.

Name goes missing

However, when comparing this with the UDR list of the Dharmasthala police station, it is now found that the police registered the case without mentioning Netravati’s name. The UDR number is 25/2018. It states, “on May 7, 2018, Mrityunjaya Patil ended life by hanging inside a room at Vaishali guest house.” The UDR explicitly leaves out his wife.

The document in question

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing UDR and missing cases, must immediately investigate why the woman’s name and age were deliberately excluded from the record. Was there any foul play involved? The SIT must also retrieve the original death note to verify its authenticity and determine where the autopsy of the couple was carried out, as well as when the bodies were handed over.

  1. That death note sounds suspicious. No one dies for corruption , politics in the system today. The second part of the death note proves it is fake. Why would those who lived for 60 years seeing corrupt system in this country would come to Dharmasthala , book a lodge and die suddenly?! Had they thought DVH would do clean up corruption and ban liquor, Why didn’t they speak to him , discuss and wait until politics is changed by him? The police have not probed the death note nor the UDR. Leaving out woman’s name in the UDR itself shows, it may be a murder. You beed to investigate if these couple had land , if they had who is owning it now.
