Middle East Tensions Disrupt International Flights; BLR Airport Issues Passenger Advisory

Flight schedules on select international routes have been affected following the evolving situation in parts of the Middle East, prompting Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) to issue a passenger advisory on Saturday.
In a statement, the airport said some international services are experiencing schedule changes due to developments in the region. Passengers travelling on overseas routes — particularly those transiting through or operating to destinations in West Asia — have been advised to check the latest flight status directly with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport.
To assist travellers, a dedicated help desk has been set up at the kerbside (Level 3) of Terminal 2. Airport authorities said the facility will provide real-time information and guidance to passengers whose travel plans may be impacted.
“We are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with airlines and relevant authorities to ensure smooth passenger movement and minimise inconvenience,” the advisory stated, thanking passengers for their understanding and cooperation.
The advisory comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in parts of the Middle East, which have led to airspace restrictions, route diversions and precautionary operational changes by several global carriers over the past few days. Airlines often reroute flights to avoid conflict zones or temporarily suspend services as a safety measure, resulting in longer flying times, delayed departures, or last-minute cancellations.
The Middle East serves as a major aviation hub connecting India to Europe, North America and Africa. Airports such as Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi act as key transit points for passengers from Bengaluru and other Indian cities. Any disruption in the region typically has a cascading effect on international schedules, aircraft rotations and crew availability.
Aviation analysts note that even limited airspace closures can significantly impact flight paths, as airlines are required to take longer alternate routes to comply with international safety advisories. This can also increase fuel costs and operational complexity.
Travellers scheduled to fly internationally over the coming days have been advised to check flight status through airline websites or customer care channels before leaving for the airport.
