Namma Metro’s Yellow Line to get BEML train-sets; signs ₹414-crore contract

BEML Ltd has secured an additional order worth ₹414 crore from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) for the supply of trainsets for Phase II of the Namma Metro project.

The company disclosed the development in a regulatory filing, stating that the order is in the ordinary course of business.

This is the latest in a series of rolling-stock contracts BMRCL has placed with the state-owned manufacturer as it ramps up capacity for ongoing network expansion.

Earlier this year, BEML received a variation order of about ₹405 crore for 42 additional metro cars for Reach-6, expanding the scope of a base contract awarded in 2023. That 2023 order, valued at around ₹3,177 crore, covered the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of driverless metro trainsets along with 15 years of maintenance support.

With the successive additions, BEML’s total supply commitment to BMRCL for Phase II corridors has steadily increased.

The cumulative orders now cover multiple trainsets intended for the Yellow Line and other extensions under Phase II, aimed at meeting rising passenger demand and enabling higher service frequency once the new stretches open.

BEML, headquartered in Bengaluru, is a key supplier of metro rolling stock across India. The repeated orders underscore BMRCL’s continued reliance on the company’s manufacturing capability as the city prepares for a significant scale-up of its metro operations.
