“Promised marriage, delivered a scam”: Bengaluru man loses ₹34.4 lakh to woman met on Jeevansathi app

Bengaluru

A Bengaluru-based bank professional searching for a life partner on the Jeevansathi matrimonial app ended up losing ₹34.4 lakh to a woman who lured him into a fake cryptocurrency investment scheme under the pretext of marriage. FIR is registered in East CEN police station.

The complainant, 33-year-old Ramesh (named changed), connected with a woman who introduced herself as Mahima Majji, claiming to be a finance professional working at Great Ormond Hospital in the UK. After meeting online of the app, they began chatting on WhatsApp on April 25, 2025, using numbers based in India and the UK. During their early conversations, Mahima claimed to be involved in digital currency trading and encouraged Pramod to join her to “build a secure future together.”

She introduced him to a trading platform via a suspicious link — https://m.thexglobaltrx.net — and asked him to register on the Binance crypto exchange. Initially hesitant, Pramod eventually gave in to her repeated requests. Over the span of six weeks, he made ten separate investments totaling ₹34,40,000, starting from May 12 to June 24. Despite seeing promising returns displayed on the platform, he was never able to withdraw any amount.

When he attempted to retrieve his investment, he was told by the platform’s so-called customer service — operating from UK numbers — that he would need to pay a 5% withdrawal fee of ₹3.4 lakh. It was then that Pramod suspected he had been defrauded.

The woman had also promised to return to India on July 18 to initiate marriage discussions and persuaded him to delete all other matrimonial apps, assuring him of her commitment.

Realizing the entire relationship may have been a setup for fraud, Pramod approached the cyber crime police and filed a complaint under acknowledgment number 31606250078816. He has requested authorities to investigate the matter, recover the lost funds, and take action against those involved in the scam.
