South Corporation reclaims ₹10-crore CA sites in Shantiniketan Layout, Arakere after High Court order

Bengaluru, March 7:

The Bengaluru South City Corporation has taken possession of civic amenity (CA) sites worth an estimated ₹10 crore in Shantiniketan Layout in Arakere under the Bommanahalli zone, following directions from the Karnataka High Court.

According to a statement issued by the civic body, the High Court, in its order dated December 3, 2024 in Writ Petition No. 14427/2021, directed that plots No. 15 and 16 in Survey No. 76, which were reserved for public use, be handed over to the corporation. The order also covered other civic amenity sites in the layout.

Acting on the court’s direction, officials led by Commissioner K.N. Ramesh inspected the site after reports that some individuals had encroached upon the land and begun constructing structures. With police protection, the officials cleared the illegal construction and removed building materials from the site.

The total area of the civic amenity sites is around 20,000 sq ft and is valued at approximately ₹10 crore. The corporation has now taken possession of the land and said steps will be taken to utilise it for public purposes.

Officials also installed signboards declaring the land as property of the Greater Bengaluru Authority to prevent further encroachment or misuse of civic amenity sites.

Bommanahalli Zonal Joint Commissioner Satish Babu, Chief Engineer K.V. Ravi and other officials were present during the operation.
