Three killed in car-KSRTC bus collision near Athani, one seriously injured

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of three people when a car collided with a KSRTC bus near Murugundi village in Athani taluk on Sunday. The victims, all residents of Afzalpur in Kalaburagi district, were returning from a visit to the Mahalakshmi Devi temple in Kolhapur.

The deceased have been identified as Girish Ballorgi, Rahul Malashi, and Sangu Amargondi. Another passenger, Radhika Malashi, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to initial reports, the accident occurred when the car and the KSRTC bus collided head-on under unclear circumstances. Athani police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident.

The incident has brought attention to road safety concerns along this busy inter-district route, especially during weekends and holidays when temple-bound traffic increases
