UAE launches new nomination-based Golden Visa for Indians: Eligibility, benefits, and key details
In a move that further deepens bilateral ties and broadens migration opportunities, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a new nomination-based Golden Visa scheme, with India and Bangladesh chosen as the first countries to pilot the programme. The initiative opens up long-term residency to a wider range of professionals beyond traditional investors, and is expected to attract over 5,000 Indian applicants within the first three months.
Under this new model, Indian nationals can apply for a lifetime UAE Golden Visa by paying a one-time fee of AED 100,000 (approximately ₹23.3 lakh). Unlike the earlier investor-centric visa, this version targets professionals such as nurses, educators, digital content creators, scientists, maritime executives, and e-sports professionals.
What’s new in the Golden Visa?
Originally launched in 2019 to attract high-net-worth individuals through property or business investments, the Golden Visa has undergone a major transformation. The updated version, expanded in May 2025, now includes:
- Nurses with 15+ years of experience
- School teachers, principals, university faculty
- Executives, scientists, and frontline workers
- YouTubers, podcasters, and digital creators
- Accredited e-sports professionals aged 25+
- Luxury yacht owners and maritime leaders
This broadening of scope reflects UAE’s aim to bring in a diverse range of skilled residents contributing to its economy, culture, and innovation ecosystem.
India part of first testing phase
India and Bangladesh have been chosen for the initial rollout of the nomination-based visa. The Rayad Group, a consultancy, has been appointed to facilitate the nomination process in India.
“Applicants will undergo a comprehensive background check, including anti-money laundering screening, criminal record verification, and a review of their professional and social media footprint,” said Rayad Kamal Ayub, Managing Director of Rayad Group, in a statement to PTI.
The process will assess the applicant’s potential contribution to sectors such as science, trade, finance, startups, and culture. Once vetted, the applications will be forwarded to UAE authorities for final approval.
Easy application process
Interested individuals can apply without traveling to Dubai. Applications can be submitted through:
- One VASCO visa concierge centres in India and Bangladesh
- Rayad Group’s online portal
- Registered local offices
- A dedicated helpline and support system
Key benefits
- Lifetime UAE residency
- Freedom to sponsor family members
- Permission to employ domestic staff like drivers and house help
- Eligibility to engage in any profession or start a business
- Visa remains valid regardless of changes in property ownership (unlike earlier property-based Golden Visa)
Strengthening bilateral ties
The rollout of this scheme underscores the growing strategic partnership between India and the UAE, particularly after the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) that came into effect in May 2022. The Golden Visa’s nomination route is part of an agreement between the UAE and CEPA signatory nations, with future expansion expected to include China and other CEPA partners.
With vetted applications being handled by Rayad Group and VFS, the pilot is positioned as a testbed for a more inclusive, talent-driven residency framework in the UAE.
