New Delhi
Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has submitted his resignation with immediate effect, citing health reasons and the need to abide by medical advice. His resignation, addressed to the Hon’ble President of India, was tendered in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution.
In his letter dated July 21, Dhankhar expressed deep gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu for her “unwavering support” and the “soothing wonderful working relationship” they shared during his tenure. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers for their cooperation and support, calling the experience “invaluable.”
“The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon’ble Members of Parliament would ever be cherished and embedded in my memory,” Dhankhar wrote.
Reflecting on his time in office, the outgoing Vice President said it was a privilege to serve during a phase of “remarkable economic progress” and “unprecedented exponential development” in India. He expressed pride in witnessing Bharat’s global rise and reaffirmed his confidence in the country’s future.
Dhankhar concluded the letter with a message of respect and gratitude, saying his tenure as Vice President of the Republic had been a “true honor.”
The resignation brings to a close Jagdeep Dhankhar’s constitutional role as the Vice President, a position he held since August 2022.
