The Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a stern notice to the prestigious Bangalore Golf Club (BGC) for allegedly violating the terms of its lease agreement by initiating construction activities without prior government approval.

According to an official notice dated June 10, 2025, the Assistant Executive Engineer from the Building Subdivision of the PWD cited multiple previous communications warning BGC not to make any modifications to its premises without explicit permission. Despite this, a site inspection conducted on June 9, 2025, by the Executive Engineer and other departmental officials revealed that the club had begun dismantling old building walls and was carrying out structural modifications within the premises.

The PWD clarified that the lease agreement dated May 16, 2023, explicitly prohibits any such construction or alteration unless prior approval is obtained from the government. The notice described these ongoing activities as a “clear violation” of Clause 6 of the lease agreement.

In response, the department has ordered an immediate halt to all such construction and modification work. The notice further warned that failure to comply would result in escalation to higher authorities, and appropriate legal and administrative action may be taken as per the lease agreement terms.

PWD officials reiterated that any structural changes, including temporary constructions like toilets or renovations, must go through proper approval channels to ensure transparency and adherence to public property usage policies.

This development places the century-old Bangalore Golf Club—known for its elite membership and historical relevance—under scrutiny. Authorities are expected to monitor the site for compliance in the coming days.
