In a clear message against public littering, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao imposed a ₹5,000 fine on a Yamaha showroom near Hebbal for dumping garbage in public space. The fine was collected on the spot by BBMP marshals during a surprise inspection.

The crackdown came as part of a broader drive to tackle sanitation violations in the city. Rao, who was inspecting the Hebbal flyover area, directed officials to take strict action against anyone found littering roadsides and public spaces.

During his visit to the pedestrian walkway near Baptist Hospital, Rao emphasised the need for clean and accessible footpaths. He ordered that any damaged stretches be repaired immediately to ensure safe passage for pedestrians.

A known black spot near Amruth Sagar Hotel on 4th Main Road, Hebbal was also addressed. On Rao’s instructions, BSWML deployed a waste collection vehicle to clear the dumped garbage and clean the area.

To strengthen public participation, BSWML has launched a dedicated WhatsApp helpline at 9448197197. Citizens can report dumping by sending photos and location details. Officials are required to act promptly and share updates with complainants.

Rao also instructed contractors working on the KR Puram–City flyover project to take up beautification of the space below the flyovers as part of the city’s urban renewal efforts.
