Crackdown in Mahadevpura: Commissioner Maheshwar Rao orders action against unauthorised shops in basements

In a stern directive to civic officials, BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao instructed that legal notices be issued against unauthorised shops operating in basements within Mahadevpura Zone. He emphasized that basement spaces are strictly meant for parking and any violation of this rule would attract legal consequences.
Addressing a review meeting held on various issues concerning Mahadevpura Zone, the Commissioner directed officials to take action against such illegal constructions and ensure compliance with building norms. The BBMP will soon identify such shops and issue notices.
Integrated plan for lakes
Maheshwar Rao highlighted that Mahadevpura houses 52 lakes and called for an integrated development plan for each lake. The plan must cover encroachment identification, development of inlets, outlets, and buffer zones.
Committee to oversee works
To improve project monitoring and execution, the Chief Commissioner asked for the formation of a committee headed by the Joint Commissioner. The committee will ensure that public queries are swiftly addressed and updates on works are readily available.
Resolve TDR issues
Referring to pending land acquisition matters at key locations like Hoodi Junction and Panathur S-Cross, Rao directed officials to engage with landowners and resolve Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) concerns to fast-track public infrastructure works.
Monsoon preparedness
Rao urged cleaning of major stormwater drains and roadside silt removal using tractors and necessary equipment. He stressed the importance of ensuring unblocked water flow during rains to prevent flooding.
Flood prevention measures
Officials were told to take precautionary steps in flood-prone areas like Sai Layout and expedite ongoing rajakaluve (primary drain) works near Columbia Asia on Sarjapur Road.
E-Khata drives to be held
City-wide E-Khata drives will be conducted across all assembly constituencies. In Mahadevapura’s two constituencies, officers were directed to organise large-scale E-Khata melas for public convenience.
Mahadevapura Zonal Commissioner Ramesh said the zone currently has 85,000 streetlights, and an additional 10,000 poles have been identified for lighting installation. A proposal will be submitted, and repair of faulty lights will be taken up after a detailed survey.
Joint Commissioner Dakshayini, Deputy Commissioner Gayathri Nayak, Chief Engineer Ranganath, and other departmental officials attended the meeting.
