Power TV MD Rakesh Shetty seeks anticipatory bail in sting video case
Bengaluru
Rakesh Shetty, Managing Director of Kannada satellite news channel Power TV, has approached a Bengaluru court seeking interim anticipatory bail in connection with the controversy surrounding a leaked sting video that mentions former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
According to the court proceedings dated October 22, 2026, Shetty’s counsel filed a memo accompanied by a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, for reference. The counsel also presented arguments on an application seeking interim anticipatory bail before the Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, CCH-66.
The court has posted the matter for orders on October 23, 2026.
The application comes amid a police investigation into the leaked video following a complaint by Siddaramaiah. Shetty was questioned by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in connection with the complaint. Shetty a few days back on a live show in his channel said he will not be taking anticipatory bail. His move comes as a surprise.
According to the information shared with Blrpost.com by a whistleblower previously associated with the television channel, the sting video was recorded by K.V. Prashanth, described as an associate of Shetty, allegedly on Shetty’s instructions.
The allegations concerning the circumstances in which the video was recorded and used for blackmail are part of the wider controversy surrounding the case.
The court document establishes that Shetty has sought interim anticipatory bail and that the matter was listed for orders.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 23, 2026.
