Belthagady

After skipping proceedings on September 19, the magistrate has finally recorded the statement of Chinnayya, an accused in the Dharmasthala mass burial case. Sources are yet to confirm under which section of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) the statement was recorded in the Belthangadi court.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner of Puttur Division issued an order exiling Soujanya activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi from Dakshina Kannada district for one year. He has been ordered to stay in Manvi taluk in Raichur district. Thimarodi is currently unavailable. Sources say the order, issued on September 17.

While some sources claim Chinnayya’s statement was recorded under Section 183 of the BNSS, officials in the Home Ministry have not confirmed this. One source, however, described it as a pivotal moment in the case. It may be recalled that on September 19, his statement was recorded despite giving the date and High Court judge, Justice M Nagaprasanna during a hearing of a Writ of Mandamus expressed surprise as to why magistrate did not record the statement.
