Relief in Sight for Bengaluru Commuters as BDA Floats ₹403 Crore Bellary Road Flyover Tender

Bengaluru:

Commuters who brave the daily gridlock along Bellary Road may finally have relief in sight.

The Bangalore Development Authority has floated a tender worth ₹403.25 crore for the construction of a new flyover connecting the UAS staff quarters to Mekhri Circle — one of the city’s most chaotic and congested junctions.

The proposed structure will be a two-lane, bi-directional elevated corridor, designed to carry traffic simultaneously in both directions.

Crucially, the flyover will feature rotary up-ramp and down-ramp arrangements at either end, allowing vehicles to merge smoothly with ground-level traffic rather than creating fresh bottlenecks at the access points.

The project is to be executed on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis, meaning the appointed contractor will be responsible for the entire process from design through to delivery.

Mekhri Circle has for years been a byword for frustration among Bengaluru’s motorists. Sitting at the confluence of several busy thoroughfares along the city’s key northern artery towards Kempegowda International Airport, the junction sees punishing volumes of traffic at virtually all hours.

The elevated corridor, once built, would allow vehicles to bypass the worst of the congestion entirely.

Construction firms keen to bid must deposit an Earnest Money of ₹4.35 crore alongside their proposals. The BDA is inviting bids through Karnataka’s online procurement portal at kppp.karnataka.gov.in, with the Request for Proposal available from 5 January 2026. The deadline for submission of bids is 9 February 2026, with technical bids to be opened on 11 February 2026.

If the bidding process proceeds on schedule and a contractor is appointed without delay, ground could realistically be broken in the months ahead — offering the prospect, however distant it may feel to weary commuters, of a rather smoother drive through one of the city’s most trying stretches of road.
