BBMP Chief directs swift action on TDR issues to speed up road widening projects

Bengaluru

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has issued a strong directive to officials to resolve ongoing Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) issues hampering road widening projects in Bengaluru. He emphasised the urgent need to fast-track land acquisition processes and complete key infrastructure works without further delay.

Speaking at a progress review meeting held at the BBMP headquarters, Rao reviewed the status of projects under the Road Infrastructure Department. Out of the 16 ongoing road widening projects, only two have been completed so far. The rest remain stalled primarily due to unresolved TDR-related disputes.

Rao urged officials to engage directly with affected property owners to settle disputes quickly and efficiently. He also instructed them to provide a detailed report on the number of properties that have already been issued TDR, how many more need to be acquired, and the estimated costs required for the remaining acquisitions.

Holistic plan for junction Development

Rao also called for a comprehensive action plan for the development of major traffic junctions across the city. The goal is to improve both vehicular and pedestrian flow through better design and implementation, all within clearly defined timelines.

High-density corridor projects to be accelerated

Rao stressed the importance of expediting the High-Density Corridor (HDC) projects, particularly those along Bengaluru’s outer ring roads, which are currently under construction. Timely completion of these corridors is seen as vital for easing congestion and improving connectivity.

The meeting was attended by Special Commissioners Karegowda and Dr. K. Harish Kumar, Chief Engineer Lokesh, Superintendent Engineer Hemalatha, Executive Engineers, and other senior BBMP officials.
