Iskcon to supply food for three Bengaluru hospitals at ₹1.37 crore

Bengaluru

International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) has been awarded a ₹1,37,45,700 contract to provide breakfast, freshly prepared high-quality meals, and other food items to three major government hospitals in Bengaluru — KC General Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital, and Sir CV Raman General Government Hospital.

The contract will run for nine months and is aimed at ensuring patients receive nutritious and hygienic meals without interruption. The Karnataka Government has granted a special exemption from the regular public tender process by invoking Section 4(g) of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements Act, 1999. This provision allows direct awarding of contracts in specific circumstances to maintain service continuity or quality.

According to the order, ISKCON will be responsible for supplying not just standard meals but also breakfast and other dietary requirements for patients admitted to these hospitals. The decision is expected to speed up service delivery, avoid delays linked to competitive bidding, and leverage ISKCON’s existing experience in large-scale meal preparation.

The Health Department has been instructed to closely monitor the quality of food served and ensure that the standards promised in the agreement are consistently met. The government emphasised that the primary goal is to provide nutritious meals at reasonable rates while maintaining transparency in oversight.
