Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi during the protest demonstration in Bengaluru

‘Karnataka backs Rahul Gandhi’s fight to protect constitution and voters’ rights’

Bengaluru

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D K  Shivakumar on Friday pledged full support to Rahul Gandhi’s campaign to safeguard the Constitution and uphold voters’ rights, calling it a “historic fight” against election fraud.

Addressing the ‘Our Vote, Our Right’ protest at Freedom Park, Shivakumar lauded Gandhi’s recent call to establish “legal banks” in every polling booth to defend voter rights. “Karnataka is writing the foreword for the country’s election fraud expose,” he declared.

He noted that Rahul Gandhi had initiated a detailed probe through the Congress party’s internal research unit to investigate electoral malpractices. “We are committed to carry forward this work,” he said.

Shivakumar also accused the BJP of deploying 8,000 party workers as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) through the Chilume organisation to influence electoral rolls. “We fought and contained the damage, but failed to lodge a timely complaint with the Election Commission as such disputes rarely see resolution. Now, we have decided to bring the entire fraud to light,” he added.

The protest marks Karnataka Congress’s latest move to position the state at the forefront of a nationwide push against alleged manipulation of the electoral process.
