SIT likely to make fresh arrests in Dharmasthala case
Bengaluru/Belthangady
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Dharmasthala mass burial and unnatural death reports is likely to make fresh arrests, sources in the Home Department revealed to blrpost.com.
Meanwhile, the SIT has summoned Soujanya activists Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi, Girish Mattannavar, and Jayanth T under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The activists have been asked to appear for investigation on Monday (October 27).
Sources in the Home Department clarified that no deadline has been set for the submission of the chargesheet. “Mainstream television news channels do not understand how the investigation system works, and that may be the reason such reports were aired. No deadline has been fixed for the SIT to submit the chargesheet,” the source said.
The source further indicated that the SIT is likely preparing to make some arrests but did not confirm whether the individuals involved would be the activists or the Dharmasthala suspects. The SIT has completed recording the police statement of accused Chinnayya, who was arrested on August 23. Following his statement, the SIT will now record the statements of the activists.
