The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials and contractors to complete the ongoing construction of the flyover on Yelahanka-Doddaballapur Main Road by the end of December 2025. He issued these instructions during an inspection near Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan Main Road in Yelahanka Suburb, which falls under the Yelahanka Zone.

During the visit, he noted that approximately 60 percent of the 2-kilometer-long flyover work has been completed. Emphasising the urgency, he asked both BBMP engineers and the executing contractors to speed up the remaining work and ensure timely completion.

The Commissioner also pointed out several civic issues needing immediate attention. He observed parts of the footpath near Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan Road had collapsed, potentially disrupting pedestrian movement. He instructed officials to carry out repairs, including reinstallation of curb stones and fixing sunken portions.

Another issue flagged was a Bangalore Electricity company Limited (BESCOM)  installed a transformer pole with exposed iron rods hanging too low over the pedestrian path, posing a hazard to the public. Rao ordered BESCOM authorities to rectify the situation immediately.

At 16th B Cross Road in Yelahanka Suburb, it was found that some shop owners had dumped waste on the footpath. The Commissioner instructed marshals to fine these shopkeepers and to issue warnings against future violations, particularly regarding garbage dumping on roadsides or in vacant plots.

In Chikkabommasandra Cross, a 15-meter stretch of the footpath lacked proper slab covering. Rao took note and directed the responsible department to install slabs without delay, ensuring safe pedestrian access.

He also came down strongly on unauthorised constructions. In Sector A of Yelahanka Suburb, a building was found to be in violation of approved plans. He ordered that a notice be issued under the BBMP Act, 2020, and the illegal portions be removed. Further, he instructed zonal authorities to act against all such plan violations across the Yelahanka Zone.

Rao stressed the importance of regular maintenance of newly developed public facilities like the watch tower, cycle track, car tower, and Kannada letter decorations in the area. He instructed officials to prepare and submit proposals seeking annual maintenance funds for these amenities.
