Confirmed: Google-parent Alphabet to anchor mega tech campus at Alembic City site in Whitefield

Bengaluru

Alphabet Inc is set to anchor a major technology campus at the Alembic City site in east Bengaluru, marking one of the largest recent commitments by a global tech major to India’s office market, according to reports by Bloomberg and Reuters.

The Google parent is in advanced discussions to lease a substantial portion of upcoming commercial space at Alembic City, a large mixed-use development promoted by Shreno Ltd (formerly Alembic Glass Industries), near Kadugodi and Whitefield in Bengaluru East, the reports said.

The proposed campus forms part of Alembic City’s expansive non-residential development, which is being built across multiple towers with a total built-up area of over 8.3 million sq ft, as per planning and environmental documents submitted to authorities.

The project includes high-rise office towers, a convention centre, hotel, multi-level car parking, and supporting infrastructure.

Regulatory filings show the Alembic City development is located in Kadugodi village, Bidarahalli hobli, a key IT corridor close to Whitefield and well connected to the Outer Ring Road and Metro network. The project has been designed to accommodate large technology tenants with floor plates spread across 12 towers, some rising up to 26 floors, along with extensive parking and utilities infrastructure.

The location is however known for traffic congestion caused by private vehicles especially at Hope Farm junction.

Separately, Shreno has also secured approvals for a large residential-commercial integrated project at nearby Pattandur Agrahara, covering about 38 acres, with five residential towers of G+34 floors, retail blocks and office space, involving an investment of around ₹835 crore.

While this residential project is distinct, it underscores the scale of development activity by the Alembic group in the Whitefield–Kadugodi belt.

Bloomberg and Reuters reported that Alphabet’s India expansion is being driven by rapid headcount growth across engineering, cloud, and artificial intelligence teams, with Bengaluru remaining its largest base outside the United States. The Alembic City campus is expected to consolidate multiple offices and support long-term growth.

If finalised, the Alphabet lease would further tighten Bengaluru’s Grade-A office market and reinforce east Bengaluru’s position as one of the city’s most sought-after technology hubs, alongside Whitefield and Outer Ring Road.
