Prominent RSS leader’s son-in-law allegedly engages in drunken brawl with police over chicken kebabs in Puttur
Mangaluru
The son-in-law of a prominent Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader allegedly engaged in a drunken altercation with police personnel during the early hours of the morning over an incident involving chicken kebabs. Although the incident reportedly took place a few days ago at Kabaka in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, the Puttur Town Police have allegedly not registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the episode.
According to the sources in the police department, the son-in-law of the senior RSS leader allegedly forced a local kebab shop owner to open his establishment well past the permitted business hours, reportedly after 2 a.m. Sources claimed that the man was heavily intoxicated and insisted that the shop owner prepare fresh chicken kebabs for him. Fearing possible assault or retaliation, the shop owner allegedly complied with the demand and began cooking.
While the food was being prepared, a police patrol attached to the Puttur Town Police Station, which was conducting routine night rounds, noticed that the shop was operating during restricted hours. The cops stopped their patrol vehicle near the shop and stepped out to enquire about the violation.
According to sources, on seeing the police arrive, the son-in-law of the RSS leader allegedly instructed the shop owner not to panic and to continue preparing the kebabs, claiming that he would handle the situation.
Police personnel on duty reportedly directed the shop owner to immediately shut down the establishment, stating that he was not permitted to operate at that hour. This allegedly enraged the son-in-law of the leader, who began shouting at the police and obstructing them from carrying out their official duties. What initially began as a routine inspection soon escalated into a heated drunken confrontation, with the man allegedly hurling abuses at the police personnel.
Sources further alleged that during the altercation, the man claimed that he would become the next MLA from Puttur and warned the police against interfering in his activities. The verbal confrontation reportedly intensified before turning into a physical scuffle.
Police department sources stated that an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was also present at the spot during the incident. They further claimed that a video of the altercation was recorded and is reportedly in the possession of the ASI. According to the sources, the son-in-law of the RSS leader allegedly even laid hands on one of the police personnel during the heated exchange.
Sources further claimed that later in the morning, the accused allegedly contacted senior police officials and attempted to persuade them to bury the incident and refrain from registering an FIR. Although several police personnel were reportedly upset over the alleged obstruction of duty and assault on officers, they were said to be helpless in proceeding with legal action.
According to police department sources, the matter was also brought to the notice of the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dakshina Kannada on Sunday. However, despite the seriousness of the allegations, no FIR had been registered at the time of filing this report.
