Bengaluru

Emphasising the need for coordinated governance, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan on Monday directed multiple civic agencies to work in tandem to ensure systematic maintenance of the K-100 stormwater drain (valley) project.

Speaking during an on-site inspection of the K-100 Citizens’ Waterway at Kumbaragundi in the Chickpet area, Cholan underlined that maintaining the waterway in a scientific and sustainable manner is essential for urban sanitation and flood management. He instructed officials from various departments to strengthen coordination and ensure cleanliness along the stretch.

Raising concern over improper waste disposal, the Commissioner said that dumping of garbage and slaughterhouse waste into the waterway must be strictly prevented. He also directed officials to ensure that sewage water is treated before being released into the K-100 drain, highlighting the importance of pollution control in maintaining ecological balance within the city’s drainage network.

In a related development, Cholan instructed authorities to prepare a blueprint for upgrading the municipal slaughterhouse building located in Usman Khan Galli, Kumbaragundi. The proposed redevelopment aims to modernise the facility and address hygiene concerns linked to waste disposal.

Further, he called for a joint meeting involving the Central City Corporation, the Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and other concerned stakeholders to devise a comprehensive strategy for maintaining cleanliness and efficiency of the K-100 valley project.

Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, Superintending Engineer Chandrashekhar, Executive Engineers, and other officials were present during the inspection.
