Chargesheet in Dharmasthala case likely to be delayed, activists move HC to quash FIR
Bengaluru/Belthangady
The filing of the chargesheet in the Dharmasthala mass burial case (39/2025) is likely to be delayed, according to a highly placed source in the Special Investigation Team (SIT). This contradicts Home Minister G. Parameshwara’s statement that the report would be submitted by October 31.
Meanwhile, Soujanya activists, including Girish Mattannavar and Vittal Gowda, have approached the High Court (HC) seeking to quash the same case in which they were summoned under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The matter is scheduled to come up before Justice Mohammad Nawaz today (October 30, 2025). The activists are represented by advocate S. Balan.
The SIT source said, “we have not received any instruction from the government to submit the chargesheet on October 31. The government has also not set any deadline. The investigation has its own pace, and in this case, the SIT is already proceeding at breakneck speed.”
The SIT is yet to record statements from several suspects, the source added, noting that the completion of the chargesheet will take some more time.
Sources further said the summoning of the activists is part of the probe into the second statement given by Chinnayya before the Belthangady magistrate under Section 183 of the BNSS. Chinnayya’s statement reportedly contains adverse remarks against the activists, and the SIT is bound to investigate them.
It may be recalled that Chinnayya was arrested on August 23 on charges of perjury and forgery. The whistleblower in Dharmasthala case filed complaint on July 3 in the jurisdictional police station. In the complaint former sanitation worker Chinnayya alleged that he was forced to bury bodies and some of victims of violence.
He even recorded his statement before the magistrate under 183. On July 19, the State government constituted SIT to prope the allegations. The SIT conducted exhumation in 15 spots and recovered two skeletal remains. Later Chinnayya claimed that he lied under the oath and his first allegations were untrue.
The SIT, on its part, is expected to oppose the petition seeking to quash the FIR in the High Court.

Let’s see upcoming suspects

Chinnayya has also named a few big men’s name too, right???. SIT trusts Chinnayya when he speaks(as tutored?) against activists but ignores when he mentions big men’s hand? Why is SIT not calling them for investigation? In every crime case that came to light in Dharmasthala, big men’s names are linked. Why is it so difficulty for SIT to summon them for investigation? SIT cannot close the case as CM or HM are showing urgency.
So now that chinnayya has spoken against activists in the second statement the SIT is rushing like a comet to enquire them. But during the first statement they didn’t question the accused.Even though SIT went upto enquiry office in Dharmasthala they didn’t mind to go beyond that. What is making them hesitant to question the primarily accused giants. This is wrong.

basically this is attempt to avoid directions at activists and rather asking SIT to invest time on otherside in case they found some suspects to unearth further findings at ‘actual’ direction of case
All hopes dashed!. Inspite of such committed activists, Govt. machinery is producing something else. Wake up call to honest law abiding citizens.
